Italy / Vietnam | Metals production specialist Tenova has been contracted by Pomina and Thep Viet Steel Group to supply a new melt shop unit with a Consteel - EAF. According to the Vietnam steel group this unit, having 120 tonnes tapping size and capable to produce over 1,000,000 tonnes per year of liquid steel, will be the largest steel melt shop in Vietnam for long products. The meltshop will be put in operation at the end of 2011 in Phu My Industrial Zone, 60 Km away from Ho Chi Minh City.
This plant will be the second meltshops supplied by Tenova, based in Italy, to the Pomina and Thep Viet Steel Group being the first unit equipped with a 60 tonnes Consteel - EAF. By that first installation, in only one year of operation after the start up done in 2007, the steel production reached the design capacity. In the following years the production increased and the performances have been greatly improved.
The good results in terms of production and performances, achieved with the first Consteel-EAF have set the Consteel solution as first choice for the second melt shop of the Pomina and Thep Viet Steel Group. However the Consteel solution was compared versus all other melting technologies presently available on the market The evaluation and the selection of Consteel EAF have been taken thanks to the energy savings, the increased yield, and its easy operations and flexibility in accepting all kind of scrap.
For Tenova this new EAF represents a leading trend of technology in Vietnam where 4 of the latest steel projects have selected the Consteel technology.
