Metso to lay off recycling personnel
by Editorial Staff. March 08, 2010
Germany | Worldwide equipment specialist Metso has concluded negotiations with the company’s workers council concerning lay-offs in its metal recycling business. All personnel categories within the Metso unit in Düsseldorf - also known as Metso Lindemann - are affected by the 115-person cut in the workforce.

According to the Finnish-owned company, the primary reason for the lay-offs is that demand for metal recycling equipment has been weakened by low scrap metal prices and the steel production drop-off within Europe and North America. The labour force reductions form part of a process to streamline Metso’s metal recycling business operations and structure in order to improve competitiveness.

Currently, approximately 500 people are employed within the metal recycling business in Düsseldorf. Globally, Metso’s recycling business employs approximately 800.
