United States | Computer manufacturer HP has achieved its goal of recycling 4.53 million tonnes of e-scrap six months ahead of target. The company has now set itself a new goal of recycling 2 billion pounds by the year 2010.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the inception of HP’s recycling programmes, which now operate in more than 40 countries, regions and territories. The schemes seek to reduce the environmental impact of IT products, minimise waste going to landfills, and help customers conveniently manage end-of-life products in an environmentally-sound fashion. In 2006, HP recovered 930 000 tonnes of electronics globally.
