According to a report from the WEEE Forum, there has been a sharp increase in the amount of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) collected for recycling in the EU.
The body, which represents the interests of 35 EU take-back systems, suggests the 16 most developed take-back systems were responsible for collecting 428 600 tonnes of WEEE scrap last year. The figure falls short of the 4 kg per inhabitant target laid down by the EU for 2006; however, the forum argues that the goal was exceeded if other factors are taken into consideration.
The forum draws attention to a pronounced increase in the number of operational schemes and in the range of WEEE scrap they collect.
