* The Shredder Company

A major expansion of its operations has been announced by Northwest Recycling of Houston, Texas, USA, which is owned by John Newell and Alan Walker. A full-service, 23-acre, US$ 25 million steel scrap recycling facility is to be located on deep water at the Houston Ship Channel and will feature a 124 SXS shredder from The Shredder Company, LLC of Canutillo, Texas. The facility will handle both ferrous and non-ferrous material.

With its installation expected to be completed late this summer, the 7000 HP shredder boasts a 3660DFR smart feeding system, allowing for processing surges of up to 400 short tons per hour. The shredder has been designed to process a high percentage of No 1 and No 2 scrap, and will handle bales of steel scrap. Downstream equipment features a split conveyor line with double magnets to produce very clean and dense shredded steel scrap. The non-ferrous separation system utilises the very latest in separation technology, much of which has been developed in various plants owned by Newell family members.
