Germany | Hydraulic materials handler manufacturer Liebherr has held a gala open day to celebrate the unveiling of its new assembly hall at Kirchdorf, Germany. More than 800 guests attended the festivities - including some 500 customers, as well as dealers and Liebherr employees.
The result of a US$ 56 million (Euro 39 million) investment, the new production hall represents a significant expansion of Liebherr’s manufacturing capabilities. Dedicated exclusively to the production of material handlers, it will allow the company to double its annual production. The new hall boasts a surface area of 22 000 square metres; throughout its global network, the Liebherr Group has been adding a total of 240 000 square metres of manufacturing space over the course of this year.
During the event in Kirchdorf, several product demonstrations illustrated the Liebherr machines’ capabilities, including a quick coupler system that allows a scrap handler to switch from a grapple to a shear arrangement in minutes without the operator having to leave his cab.
The Liebherr Group is a diversified company producing construction and material handling equipment, aerospace components, refrigerators and other equipment. The privately-held company has operations worldwide and recorded revenues of more than US$ 6.4 billion (Euro 4.5 billion) in 2006.
