United States | Newly established Green EnviroTech Corp. is planning a business that would serve scrap metal companies involved in processing vehicles. The business would convert auto shredder residue into new auto parts and synthetic fuel. The facility will handle 100,000 tonnes of fluff a year, the company says.
The US$26 million plant would be more than 120,000 square feet and could create 90 to 100 jobs, says Jeff Chartier, president of Green EnviroTech.
The facility will be a collaborative effort between Green Envirotech, which is run by Chartier and Chief Executive Officer Gary DeLaurentiis, and SiCon GmbH of Hilchenbach, Germany. The company has contracted scrap metal dealers to send their shredder fluff to the facility. The facility, to be based in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, could help make 85% to 90% of a vehicle recyclable reducing the need for virgin materials and cutting what businesses send to landfills. Mr Chartier estimates that the plant could cut what companies send to landfills by 30%.
He claims that as far as he knows, the plant will be the only one of its kind in the nation and possibly the world. He adds that he has travelled the globe, meeting leaders of green companies and learning about new practices in the industry. It's green. We'll have nothing going into the ground and nothing going out of a stack, he said.
