Nyrstar to close GM Metal operation
by Editorial Staff. November 20, 2009
France / Belgium | Metals producer Nyrstar NV has told employees at GM Metal in France of its intention to shut the site in the coming months. According to the company, the intended closure is consistent with Nyrstar’s strategy of continually reviewing its portfolio of assets to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and business imperatives.

GM Metal produces approximately 20 000 tonnes of zinc alloys from cathode supplied from internal sources and other recycled zinc material. Following the closure of GM Metal, production will be transferred to the large-scale casting and alloying facilities of Nyrstar Balen/Overpelt in Belgium. This move complements other previously-announced initiatives across the group designed to deliver cost savings and to create a lean, efficient, dynamic and flexible business.

GM Metal employs 26 people and Nyrstar will work closely with the workforce on outplacement and re-employment options.
