Fixturlaser AB of Mölndal in Sweden has extended its range of precision measurement and alignment instruments with the introduction of Fixturlaser Dirigo.
This is an entry-level shaft alignment tool which has been developed to enhance plant efficiency and productivity in all industries where rotating machinery is used.
Shaft misalignment is said to be responsible for up to 50% of rotating machinery breakdowns. These breakdowns increase unplanned machinery downtime, resulting in higher maintenance costs. Additionally, misaligned shafts cause vibration and friction, leading to higher energy consumption and, in some instances, premature bearing failures.
Industry spends vast sums of money each year on remedying the effects of misaligned shafts but, according to Fixturlaser, traditional alignment methods are often time-consuming and do not deliver the high degrees of accuracy required with today’s precision machinery. By contrast, Fixturlaser Dirigo is said to combine pinpoint laser accuracy with simplicity of use.
The new tool utilises latest laser technology for alignment measurement and adjustment. Two measuring units are easily attached to the shaft, each emitting a laser line which is projected onto a line scale on the other unit. This line scale makes it easy to detect the nature of the misalignment and facilitates rough pre-alignment. The display unit provides clear ‘live-time’ of both coupling and feet values during the alignment process.
Another key feature of the Fixturlaser Dirigo is its single-hand, four-button operation.
Established in 1984, Fixturlaser AB develops, manufactures and markets laser-based measurement systems for the alignment and positioning of machines and machine components.
