New product | Designed specifically for automated sorting of electronic and electrical waste materials (WEEE), the e-Sort is a high-speed, optical system that separates individual plastic resins, circuit boards and metals from shredded material, according to MSS Inc. The e-Sort combines the latest near infrared and metal identification technology (colour optical) in an efficient computerised system for accurate sorting of WEEE materials, the company explains. From a vibratory feeder, a single input stream of shredded and sized scrap is fed into a high-speed acceleration conveyor. Utilising proprietary optical sensing technology, the e-Sort then analyses and classifies all materials and particles according to their own specific 'signatures'.
The e-Sort’s central computer receives the information and precisely fires air jets to eject targeted particles into designated output chutes; three output products are generated from one input stream. The system is controlled from a touch screen, while software upgrades and advanced diagnostics are available through remote modem access. Feed rate is 450 to 2700 kg per hour and approximate dimensions are 4 x 1.5 x 2 metres.
