Eriez targets fines recovery
by Editorial staff. January 16, 2008
New Product | Eriez, the US-based manufacturer of a range of magnetic, vibratory and inspection equipment, has introduced the FinesSort for cost-effective recovery of metals from shredder fines.

The new system features a feeder coupled to a magnetic and an eddy-current separator to produce both a ferrous and non-ferrous metal product. The feeder delivers a uniform feed distribution across the width of the magnetic drum separator which recovers all ferrous materials in the process stream. The non-ferrous materials from the magnetic separation are delivered to the eddy-current separator whereby metals such as copper and aluminium are recovered.

Eriez President and CEO Tim Shuttleworth comments: ‘The unique feature of the system is the alternative it provides to further processing the ferrous metal product with an optional second stage magnetic drum separator. This is not the case with other systems.’

In the past, fines have often been too small to recover using conventional processing equipment and so have ended up in landfill, the company points out.
