Top-speed Niton analysers
by Editorial staff. January 29, 2008
New Product | Thermo Fisher Scientific, the US manufacturer of hand-held X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysers, has unveiled the Niton XL3 800 and XL3t 900 series which, it claims, provide the fastest alloy grade identification and laboratory-quality composition analysis ever achieved with a hand-held XRF analyser. Typical times for routine, positive grade identification is less than two seconds - up to four times faster than Thermo’s previous generation of instruments. As a result, sample throughput and user productivity are significantly increased, says the manufacturer.

The Niton XL3t 900 Series offers non-destructive, laboratory-quality chemical analysis of aluminium and titanium alloys, as well as nickels, super-alloys and stainless steel among others. It eliminates the need for OES instrumentation in the field for analysis of magnesium, aluminium and silicon. ‘In fact, the XL3t 900 Series, with its helium purge measurement head, takes the analytical capabilities of hand-held XRF to a new level,’ says Niton’s Marketing Director Jon Shein.

Both series are available in a range of configurations and with an assortment of optional features/accessories to suit a wide variety of analytical needs, according to Thermo.
