Accurate weighing with Intermercato
by Editorial staff. February 27, 2008
Sweden | Technology developed by Sweden’s Intermercato AB is said to solve the problem of dynamic weighing of a hanging load when it comes to heavy-duty material handlers. According to the company, its XW E AUT series weighing equipment functions without operator intervention; the scale can be activated at a certain trigger value or by the operator pushing a switch. In both cases, however, the weight registration, takes place automatically when lifting the load.

Targeted at the scrap recycling sector, the new equipment boasts a maximum measuring range of 20 tonnes. Depending on the operator, the weight of the load and also the distance between the load and the machine, acceleration will normally vary and thereby render accurate weighing in motion extremely problematical. This new radio-operated accelerometer scale will increase the accuracy of weighing when in motion tests carried out by The Swedish Technological Institute show, the manufacturer says.

The XW E AUT series of scales makes use of a specially-designed, temperature-compensated strain gauge which is protected against overload (the load cell is insensitive to loads beyond the measuring range) and is not exposed to the torque imposed on the scale by the rotator.

Intermercato AB also supplies crane scales for use in the recycling of household refuse such as glass containers, and also scales for use on forwarders when collecting forest residues.
